The classic and kit car run is an annual motoring event that starts from the Royal Park, Greenwich, takes a leisurely tour through the countryside, following a tulip-style route map, and finally ends at Madeira Drive, where cars and drivers are welcomed by the MC.
Unlike the November-staged Veteran Car Run, the Classic choses to venture out in the spring in the hope of having some fine weather. While this can't be guaranteed, the chances are much better than in November!
The Classic Car Run began in 1988, and 2015 is the 27th Run.
The entry fee in 2015 is £95 for the driver and navigator. Additional passengers are an additional £5 per head. The fee includes a commemorative numbered plate, a driver's certificate of participation, entry to organised stopping points en route, and a comprehensive route map. There are a number of other "accessories" which can be ordered at the same time as submitting your entry fee. And, of course, when you get to Madeira Drive there is the company of other drivers and their passengers.
A classic car is defined as any vehicle registered on or before 31 December 1990 - any vehicle over 25 years old. But in addition to the classic cars, the event also includes, or doubles as a KIt and Sports Car Run. This has a separate entry form.
The event is organised by GE Classic Motor Events. As the number od road worthy vehicles must inevitably grow and grow, I suspect that this event will grow and grow year on year.
Event Highlight for Onlookers
As cars arrive in Madeira Drive they are met by the MC, a man with an encyclopaedic knowledge of classic cars. Not only is there a large contingent of classic cars in the one spot - Madeira Drive - but you can also listen to an ad hoc lecture on the history of the motor car!
